Way round the lake
Start the walk clockwise from the charcoal-burner’s hut (which is great for overnighting) and the trail soon takes you to a near-virgin forest, which is a nature reserve. You walk mostly close to the lake, and here and there are prepared fireplaces. A wind shelter, primarily for the use of fishermen, is located on the northern side of the lake. On the western shore of Lake Nävsjön, foot planks take you across relatively large areas of bog land. Finds from the Stone Age, by way of pieces of stone (quartz flakes) and shards that were used as tools, have been made along the western shore. On the northern shore, where Lake Nävsjön discharges, are the remains of a foundry. Humans have been attracted to Nävsjön for thousands of years.
With luck, you may see birds of prey such as buzzard, white-tailed eagle, osprey and smaller species of falcon in this magnificent setting. In spring you may also hear the singular call of the black-throated diver.
Summer or winter – always beautiful
Nävsjön can be visited all year round. In winter, long-distance skaters share the lake with people who come jig-fishing. The lake is stocked with game fish. In summer, you can go for a refreshing dip in one of the small bays. The fishing association hires out small rowing boats and sells fishing permits.
But most of all, you can look forward to a wonderful and varied walk around the lake!
Fishing permits can be bought at the vending machine by Lake Nävsjön.
Östergötland County Administrative Board offers visitors to Nävsjömossen Nature Reserve the use of a wooden rowing boat, moored at a spit of land on the south-western end of the lake (to the west of the small island Ravalen).
The boat is unlocked and must be returned in the same condition as when borrowed.
